1. Myth 1 – BOTOX® Cosmetic Is Toxic to Our BodiesMyths of botox

BOTOX® Cosmetic is an extremely common and safe procedure that has been used for over 20 years. Of course, there is a slim chance of side effects just like any other procedure.  Pregnant, breastfeeding, or people with neurological or musculoskeletal diseases should not have BOTOX® Cosmetic. With any medication, there is also a risk of allergy. Our recommendation is to talk to your doctor before getting Botox to make sure it is right for you.

2. Myth 2 – BOTOX® Cosmetic Makes You Look Fake or Plastic

When BOTOX® Cosmetic is done correctly, the appearance will be relaxed and natural. BOTOX® Cosmetic is meant to relax the overactive muscles that have caused the wrinkle lines to form. When the muscles are relaxed, they prevent the muscle-induced wrinkles.

3. Myth 3 – BOTOX® Cosmetic Is Painful, and I Will Have a Few Days of Downtime

There are topical numbing creams available, however most patients have little discomfort during the BOTOX® Cosmetic procedure. You most likely will have redness the day of the procedure, but it will go down in a few hours. You do not want to take any blood thinners the week of your procedure because they could make you more susceptible to bruising.

4. Myth 4 – BOTOX® Cosmetic Is for Older Women

Beginning at the age of 18, you can start receiving BOTOX®. BOTOX® helps with wrinkle progression or development as well as premature aging.

5. Myth 5 – BOTOX® Cosmetic Is Addictive

BOTOX® Cosmetic has no components to make a person physically addicted. If people feel they have become addicted, it is due to seeing the results of what BOTOX® Cosmetic can do.

6. Myth 6 – BOTOX® Cosmetic and Fillers Are the Same

BOTOX® Cosmetic relaxes the muscles and helps diminish lines and wrinkles, while fillers add volume to the facial tissue.

7. Myth 7 – BOTOX® Cosmetic Can Leave You With Droopy Eyes or Muscle

BOTOX® Cosmetic very rarely will cause your eyes or muscle to droop. If that were to happen, it would most likely be due to a very inexperienced doctor.

8. Myth 8 – When I Start Getting BOTOX® Cosmetic I Will Have to Get It Forever

Continuing BOTOX® Cosmetic is at the patient’s discretion. Those who tend to have more fine lines and wrinkles may have to come every three months to get the desired result. Those who are receiving BOTOX® Cosmetic for preventative care can go every six months to a year. If you stop using the BOTOX® Cosmetic, the patient will notice the fine lines and wrinkles will be prevalent again.
